WeatherMatrix Featured on CNN Headline News 9/24/2002 -- CNN Headline News featured a brief story on WeatherMatrix on-air at 7:50pm September 24, 2002, on their "HotWired" segment, hosted by Renay San Miguel. Renay San Miguel is a technology anchor and correspondent for CNN Headline News based in CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta.
The story was about Fall Color Webcams but they also mentioned our Storm Chasing page. A complete transcript and additional video captures are below. The story included the following;
COMPLETE TRANSCRIPT: 7:30 LEAD-IN "TOP STORIES": CNN ANCHOR: "Well fall is in the air... and on the Internet, we'll show you how you can see fall foliage without all that pesky walking." 7:45 LEAD-OUT: CNN ANCHOR: "Right now let's see what's coming up on Hotwired, here's Renee..." RENAY SAN MIGUEL: "Well, Larry, fall is in the air... and on the Internet. I'll show you a few sites where you can check out... the leaves turning." HOTWIRED SEGMENT: CNN ANCHORS: "Ah, the signs of fall. Red leaves, pumpkin patches, and... the Internet? Renay San Miguel is on a pile of leaves right now with his laptop, wireless, he just got some details." RENAY SAN MIGUEL: "Well that's right, you know you've heard of Webcams, well now they have "leaf cams" or "Fall Color Cams" and a lot of them are "sprouting up," so to speak, on the Internet. "The sky isn't falling but the leaves are, as summer checks out to make room for autumn. And when visions of taking a trip to a lush, multicolored landscape give way to typing memos at the office, you can go online and make a change in latitude to change your attitude. At EnjoyIndiana.com... [brief story on "Enjoy Indiana" website]... " "Now if the Hoosier State isn't in your weekend plans, maybe WeatherMatrix.Net is for you. Hotwired went surfing and came across a site that calls itself "a worldwide organization of over 4000 amateur and professional weather enthusiasts, meteorologists, storm chasers and spotters" -- just basically weather observers from all over the world. WeatherMatrix.Net features a full-range of realtime fall camera pictures ranging from Tacoma, Washington to Sugar Mountain, North Carolina. We talked to Jesse Ferrell, the Founder of WeatherMatrix.Net; he told us some of the links on the site have pictures that update as often as every 5 minutes, while others feature live, streaming video. In addition to shots of fall foliage there are pictures of U.S. beaches and Tropical beaches off the coast. For those who like a little "wind in their sails," WeatherMatrix.Net offers links to companies which provide Storm Chasing tours in Tornado Alley, believe it or not. " "A lot of people now use the Internet to book cheap flights to places like Maine to watch the leaves turn, but now the Internet offers a tourist-eye a view of the leaves for those who can't afford to... "leave" the house. That is HotWired for this hour..."
