Flooding at Spring Creek, State College PA, November 19, 2003

The NWS in State College, PA, home of WeatherMatrix HQ, issued a Flood Warning For Centre County at 1237 PM EST WED NOV 19 2003 due to excessively heavy rain (24-hour total measured by WeatherMatrix was over 2.3 inches).

WeatherMatrix Founder Jesse Ferrell took these photos at 5pm at the Houserville Spring Creek USGS Gauge in State College (a couple miles from HQ). Due to the early darkness of Fall, the pictures did not turn out as well as they should have.

The gauge's reports of streamflow and stream height at the time of the photos have been permanently archived here and are displayed below. This flood exceeded the one on March 20, 2003, which was also documented.

For those of you who don't know the area... pretty much all the water you see below is not supposed to be there. I have outlined normal creek areas in red at the bottom of the details page.
