A very thin, very fast, very strong squall line moved through the Carolinas on the evening of February 22, 1997. It was ahead of a frontal system which passed through the next day bringing threatening clouds but no severe weather. The squall line itself, however, was severe, and caused wind damage across the Carolinas as it kicked through at over 30mph, with individual thunderstorm cells travelling northeast along the line at up to 60mph.
